Firefighters Respond to Reports of Illegal Fireworks

Residents in Piney Orchard said they saw fireworks going off near Rock Elm Court.

Firefighters responded to multiple reports of fireworks going off in a quiet section of Piney Orchard on Sunday evening.

Residents reported that they saw fireworks set off at about 7:30 p.m. in the area of Rock Elm Court, not far from Stream Valley Drive.

According to Division Chief Keith Swindle of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, firefighters responded immediately and found a small fire but were able to extinguish it quickly.

There was not enough information at the scene to start an investigation into the incident, Swindle said. But he cautioned that such use of fireworks is illegal and unsafe.

County rules require anyone shooting off fireworks to obtain a permit. Furthermore, they must be certified and a site inspection must be performed.

Did you see the fireworks going off Sunday?

When are there NOT fireworks going off in Odenton? I hear them all the time. When the Ravens made the playoffs, when the Ravens won the Super bowl, because it's Thursday.. anything seems to be an excuse. For a week or two recently. There was a group of people (at least two anyway) driving around in a blue or green looking car that would stop in the middle of the street, the passenger would light off a firework in their hand, and then the car would take off. I keep trying to get the license plate but it is too dark.

And they are harming who? More nanny state garbage.

Deal with the armed Roberts and car jackets. Fireworks? Get real.

They are harming the neighborhood with the ILLEGAL noise, and the very real possibility that they will set someone's HOUSE ON FIRE.

There's a reason that fireworks are illegal; they're dangerous.

It's fine if you dullards want to blow your hand off, I would just prefer that you didn't burn someone else's house down in the process.

They are harming my last damn nerve, as my dogs will bark ENDLESSLY when my redneck neighbors are setting off fireworks. Not to mention the fire hazard.

Armed 'Roberts' and car 'jackets'? Seriously?

Moving train, sorry to offend with the auto correct.

Ever think your yapping dogs might annoy people.

Shooting fireworks over someone else's house is not responsible. What someone does on their own property should be their own business.

Chris W-

I was with you for a second, but only a second. I quickly came to the realization that you are a dolt. Let's address your idiocy further. "What someone does on their own property should be their own business". Really? Not quite, genius. Fireworks have a funny way of not going off as planned. The result is usually not good. "And they are harming who? More nanny state garbage". Wrong again. It's called disturbing the peace. And you ignore in your clueless fashion your own statement regarding "On your own property". She said they were setting them off in the street, you mentally challenged in-bred. You are either a 'troll', or you are really, really stupid.

Denise-

I'm with you for the most part, except for the 'redneck' quip. I have plenty of extremely non-redneck types who engage in the questionable fireworks activity.

Drive down Maytime drive by Four Seasons Elementary. See that pretty blue house that is different than all the others, it's newer because the original burnt down because fireworks landed on the roof. I don't think that is "harmless"

My dogs are IN MY HOUSE YAPPING when the rednecks are outside violating noise regulations. So I get to be doubly annoyed- by my dogs AND the ignorant rednecks.

Perhaps you need to move? Who knew PO has been overrun by "ignorant rednecks". They must have really good jobs because most of the good fireworks are set off by the folks in the large single family homes that are fairly expensive.

I've seen your kind come and go. The problem is while your here you do nothing but complain. Be gone with you. Go back to whatever jobless paradise you came from.

I'm with you, my dog's get scared by the loud noise and my house was also were the luckily my neijhbors saw the flames headed to Summers run. I really can't afford to have my house caught on fire because some one isn't smart enough to know what damage fireworks can cause.

Speaking of loud, upsetting noises in PineyOrchard... please please please could the gun shots stop! The area is so populated now - the elementary school so close - the outdoor firing range is totally inappropriate, unnerving and scary - for the little ones and for us big ones, too. There's nothing like sitting outside on a beautiful morning, soaking up the awesomeness of God's creation, when POW! POW! and more POW! I hate that shooting range.

Are you kidding? You realize that the shooting range is a US army range that has been in operation since long before you, and likely your parents were born. They have been training soldiers there since the First World War.

It is also situated in an area where the possibility of a stray bullet hitting the elementary school is about as likely as you meeting a brontosaurus capable of speaking.

People there do not run wild firing guns an any given direction. It is a training facility for U.S. Military personnel who's job it is to protect the rest of us from harm.

I don't particularly like the noise from the race track, but they have been there for decades and have just as much right to be there as you have to own your little piece of suburbia. Same goes for the range.

You bought a house in close proximity to a U.S. Army Base, and now you would like them to please stop shooting their guns? This is a joke right?
