POLL: How Often Have You Been to Wegmans?

Now that the store has been open about a month, Patch wants to know how often you find yourself there.

It's been about a month since Wegmans opened with considerable fanfare at the Waugh Chapel Towne Centre.

Right off the bat, the store was busy with shoppers looking to stock up on supplies for Superstorm Sandy. But have you been to the store since the Grand Opening? Have you made going to Wegmans part of your weekly routine, or have you stayed away?

Chime in with our poll, and also feel free to offer your thoughts in the comments below.

Once. I was a bit lost. It'll take me a long time to figure out where things are in that store.

I've been about 4 times since they opened. I like them for some things (their brand stuff is a really good deal), but certain things there are expensive (hot food bar) and they don't have some of the regular staples on my grocery list...so Giant still wins out for me.

If you are a regular cook, the groceries are probably good. If you aren't a good cook you spend too much at the food bars.

I go about once a week for groceries or dinner (their bake-and-serve beef wellington is pretty darn tasty). I'm still partial to Giant but I do like having options. Wegman's is great!

MOM's is a local small chain based in Virginia and Maryland offering very high quality organic and locally produced foods for reasonable prices. Wegman's is a large - non-local - chain with better quality food perhaps than stores like Giant and Safeway. I support Dave's Natural Market also but they do not keep their store as nice as MOM's, don't monitor their inventory as well, and charge higher prices to boot - unfortunately.

It's too big for me. I have to ask for directions and that's not fun. Parking is always an issue there too. Not the easiest shopping center to get in and out of.

I agree with Lee. Parking and the shopping center in and out are forbidding.
I like Wegmans but not enough to fight its location.
It has brought a new level of competition to the area and shopping at Giant is better than before.

About once a week. Before Wegmans since we live in P.O, we did quick shopping at Food Lion and main shopping at Safeway. We still do quick shopping at Food Lion but Wegmans has replaced Safeway for us.

I am now a Wegman's customer. They have real butchers who know how to cut meat. The prices are great, but the thing that sets them apart from their competition is their sincere effort at customer service. Glad Wegmans is finally in Crofton.

Once. It was a fire hazard, and not worth the effort. I'll drive further for less traffic, both inside and outside the store.

I just ordered from the catering for a baby shower this past weekend and everything was great! They were very customer friendly. I had special instructions on a couple of party trays and everything requested was done' perfectly. I will use them again.

We've been happy, store is big but like everything else you have to learn your way around. If Safeway didn't flip their store around every few months I would have stayed there.

I hesitate to call Wegmans a "grocery store". It's actually an "experience"! I really couldn't believe how huge it is. I always eat there. I love it!

Wegmans is the best grocery store around. I don't go to granola eating overpriced organic markets to try and make myself feel like an environmentally friendly food consumer. I like my meat butchered, tender and well-priced and I don't care how the animal was coddled or not before he ends up on my grill. The parking complaints at Wegmans I think are off a bit, sure it was crazy crowded for the first 2-3 weeks but I go there several times a week and there are always spots open near the store. Like any store once you know the layout after a couple of visits it isn’t hard to gigure out how to grocery shop. Their brands are priced great, national brands are competitively priced some are a little cheaper, the same or a little more than other stores, I'd say it all probably evens out. The meat, seafood, cheese and deli departments are all well-staffed with knowledgeable people. The bakery with a large bread section are also staffed well and put out fresh and tasty items. One major major difference that blows safeway away is the number of open registers with clerks who will pull people from other lines if they have no wait. How many times have you been to Safeway and had to stare at the chips because you were backed up down an aisle in a line to try and checkout at one of the few open registers?

Have only been once so far, but plan to go again soon. I found their hot food bars too expensive. We could have eaten at a nice sit-down restaurant with real plates and silverware for what we paid for two take-out plates.
I love all the choices, and I found the staff to very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

I think you almost have to look at Wegmans as two different places. To the right, there's your normal grocery store, where things are pretty similar to other local places in terms of selection and price. Then on the left, there's the hot food and ready-made meals, where you might pay more for the convenience. If you're really hungry and aren't paying attention, the pay-per-pound stations may end up costing you a lot of money.

Their prepared meals for either $6, $8 or $10 that come with two sides is a pretty good deal. And like Tim said, the buffet is "ok" but you really have to be smart about what you get.

We go at least once a week but return for more often for the prepared meals. It is about time we have some good shopping choices. Now I don't have to drive to Annapolis or Columbia.

Wegmans is amazing! We waited over two years for it to open and we now do all our shopping there. Gone are the frustrating days of waiting in long checkout lines and not finding half of the things on my grocery list. The vast majority of Wegmans brand items are much cheaper than other stores in the area ... a gallon of milk is actually cheaper than Costco. A HALF gallon of milk at Food Lion is more expensive ... And if they dont' have something that you want, ask to speak to a manager and they will order it for you and stock the shelves with it. Customer service is above and beyond any stores in the area ... I mean it's night and day. Even when it's crowded to the brim, the checkout lines are still light years faster than Safeway ... I'm happy to say I will NEVER shop at Safeway again. I never really had any big problems with Giant, but can't say I would ever go there again.

Underwhelmed!- finally the closest Wegmans to open near me and the 3rd grand opening I have been too. I must say I was severely underwhelmed and let down at this location. I am not sure if it is the store size "seemingly smaller" or them leaving out some of my most favorite amenities. I was so looking forward to either the restaurant or the option of the instore food bar or if is seems cramped in the food bar side. I can't quite put my finger on my slight disappointment but I will continue to go as I have been because I do like their store still their quality and I guess the other Wegmans arent too far to venture too for the sit down, wait on service.

Great store. Has just about everything you would need even a great selection of gluten free items. Very high quality meats and seafood available that you won't find in the Giant's & Safeway's of the area.

I only went once for the hot, ready to eat food. I was not impressed. For what I spent in there for that, I could have went to a restaurant to eat. Plus my friend ordered a roast beef sub and they took one from right off the counter and wrapped it up and gave it to him. I thought it was just a display. I told him I would have gave it back. I don't food that is just sitting out, with nothing covering it for God knows how long it was sitting there. What I got was good though. So I can't complain about that, just not something I will do often. I will go again and check out the grocery store but definately not on the weekend. We could barely move around to get to there.

I'm a fan of their buffet because I get way too much food at restaurants. At $8/pd I get a proper half pound and it's only $4. But as discussed, you have to be smart about it. You can easily load up on heavy "worthless" items if you're not careful.

The 14 inch subs for $8 are also a great value but we didn't like the steak. The meatball and deli subs were good. Look at the $6 prepared meals that come with two sides. I got the crusted tilapia last week and it was great.

Let me open everyone's eyes...wegmans is an experience, you can walk In there and see people everywhere inside like an event, you feel good about being there. I'm so glad I'm not restricted to Giants, Giant prices anymore, I preferred Safeway when I had to choose. But..I think prices on food all depends on what category you belong
In.. junk, vegitarian, less meat, alll vegetables or a combination. My bill is going to be different than yours and yours base on what we all buy. You are fooling yourself if you think 1 single grocery store is gonna fit your needs. My wife and I eat meat one or 2 days a week so we actually do veggie shopping at H Mart wich is an Asian grocery store. 2 weeks of vegetables cost about $65-$75. We lived in all 3 surrounding states to know about hidden stores. For smartphone users, wegmans has a great app if your willing to enter your shopping list in the app before going because based on what wegmans you go to, in numerical order, it tells you which isle each product is in. So you won't be looking for items. You can even scan products your buying so it will be easy to shop and find next time. The food bar is a physiological thing, I use to get more food than I needed, way over $8.49 per LB. So I started getting enough to satisfy me and not fill up every slot in those black trays. I found out I was still full. The bigger the container, the more food you will add. Give it a try. You can't do anything about parking when is a store everyone loves.

I'm trying to figure out what kinda parking people are having problems with. Unless they keep trying to park right next to the store. We go there at least 3 times a week with no issues. Just to let you know, humans are made to walk, it's ok.

Re: Parking. I like to park far away from the door-ding zone. What I don't like is having to navigate thru the mall/shopping center just to 'arrive' at a grocery store.

I usually park out in the "boonies" and enjoy the walk....the only part I found that was annoying to park at was the area next to the food court it is awkward and very cramped and usually PACKED...so now I park out in the "boonies" and have had no issues.
