Police Report Robbery on Strawberry Lake Way
Officers said they are seeking a group of men in connection with the incident Friday night.
Anne Arundel County police said they responded to a robbery near Strawberry Lake Way and Sunny Chapel Road in Odenton Friday night.
Police said they got a call at about 8:30 p.m. and arrived to find a man suffering from a head injury. The victim told police that he was walking in the area when four or five people approached him and struck him in the head and knocked him to the ground.
The suspects stole some items from the man and then fled west toward Deerberry Court, police said. Police searched the area with a K-9 unit, but did not find the suspects.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries, according to authorities.

I have emailed the Piney Orchard Homeowners Association several times regarding the speeding cars, broken glass, and the graffiti on Strawberry Lake Way. In addition, I have witnessed pedestrians coming very close to getting run over by speeding vehicles while crossing the crosswalks on Strawberry Lake Way. The drivers of the vehicles will not stop for pedestrians crossing the street in a crosswalk. The Piney Orchard Homeowners Association said they would request the Police department to increase their patrols of the area.

If you think that the Piney Orchard Community Association is going to do anything about this, then you're sadly mistaken. 'Tis a sad commentary on the decline of our community. And, the current POCA Board is directly to blame!

Strawberry Lake is a mess with the persistent speeding, cars parked on the townhouse side near GORC Park (Though it is clearly marked no parking on that side of the street) The graffiti spray painted on the street and Saturday while jogging you could follow the blood trail from the incident above. I can't believe this story isn't getting more chatter, 4-5 african americans jump a white jogger at 8:30 on a Friday evening on a pretty major road in what is suppose to be a safe community. Am I and other joggers really at this much risk jogging in the evening in our community? Should people not walk their dogs in their own neighborhood? States like Florida offer concealed weapon permits and stand your ground laws, those laws atleast make a group of 4-5 males question the person they are about to jump. Since we don't have them it would be nice to see the police drive througfh the neighborhood more often instead of sitting in the parking lot of the Waugh Chapel swim club or the church parking lot near Safeway

Wow, this is not the Odenton that I've known for so many years. But when I look around at all the changes and new people, I do see where Odenton is heading and it ain't pretty. Just sickening really. It used to be a safe community.

Just bringing up a point; FL has concealed weapons permits and stand your ground. Look at the Zimmerman/Martin case. First of all, there were a number of burglaries in the area recently which is why the community stood behind Zimmerman to be on armed patrol. But if guns solve anything, why was their a rash of recent burglaries?
And when it's easy to carry concealed, you end up with pseudo-vigilantes who have absolutely no business carrying a weapon.
I lived in Vegas back in the late 80's for 4 years. Anyone could carry concealed yet many areas such as North Vegas were extremely violent. It solves nothing.

Jump me while I'm jogging and its problem solved. The Zimmerman case is mis-application of the law (which is why he will be found guilty) There are a number of instances where the concealed weapon and stand your ground law have worked effectively. To be honest I'm only concerned about how those laws work for law-abiding citizens. I understand that those laws might not help an area like North Vegas, Baltimore City etc..... but criminals shooting criminals are not the type of citizens the laws help, its a guy like this out jogging or walking in his neighborhood, a neighborhood that is generally thought of as safe (Though instances like this are kind of becoming common place on Strawberry Lake way which is a shame) But those types of laws will never get passed in MD

so our best hope is to have police patrols (Never really see the cops on Strawberry Lake Way) and effective sentences to deter crime. Its a shame that a decent neighborhood and a community park sits between Chaplegate and the neighbrhood on the back side of GORC, there is a lot of foot traffice from those neighborhoods at the park and along Strawberry Lake and individuals from those neighborhoods have been involved in documented criminal activity in Piney Orchard and Courts of 4 Seasons (Remember the 3 youths that got threw a brick through a window and ended up in a fight with the homeowner, then when taken back to their home off Maytime drive the mother was upset not with what they had done but that the youngest child when caught by police told them the names of the older kids... head shaking) routine Patrols may help and for the speeding they can set up on Kilarney Terrace and pick off speeder after speeder doing 55 in a 35 zone

Hmmm...The police are overworked. What happened to the community policing itself. Get outside monitor your neighborhood and CALL the police when you see something suspicious. It wont stop all crime but it sure will help.

4-5 African Americans walking down the street at 8:30pm is not suspicious in itself. It gets real suspicious about the time they jump a guy. If the police patrolled the neighborhood and a person(s) who are contemplating commiting a crime see them drive past they may not commit said crime because in the back of their mind that police officer may drive back past at any moment. You can't call the police everytime you see a person(s) walking down the street that you don't recognize, and I'm sure up until they assualted the jogger they were simply walking down the street. I realize the police are not over staffed and community awareness can be an effective tool, I'm just saying if you have time to sit in idle in parking lots you have time to patrol neighborhoods

I understand your frustration. But do you know what/why the officer is sitting in the parking lots. One is high visibility, another is doing paperwork so they dont have to get paid OT to complete it when they get back to the station. I am sure the officers are restricted on how many and how often they can patrol the neighborhoods because of MONEY.
As far as seeing anyone who isnt normally in a neighborhood, that isnt normally suspicious but when I was growing up people spoke to everyone in the neighborhood whether they were a stranger or friend. This alone will keep most crimes of opportunity from occurring. The potential criminals know you saw them and the neighbors know you are there too. People need to get out in the neighborhood more and the crime will move on. It works. I have seen it happen.

I think you all are mistaken. I live in West Courts with my husband Brian and our daughter Brittany. We are renters and moved into PO about 8 months ago. I'm not sure why you all think that I am someone that I am not. You all are fools if you think that I have any kind of association with Mr. Dibiaso.

Why is there no uproar about this? If 5 white guys beat a black man it would be all over the news and it would be called a hate crime. Why is it not a hate crime when a group of black males beat a white male?

@ The Truth...stirring the pot. LOL
Hate Crime Def : a criminal offense committed against a person, property or society which is motivated, in whole or in part, by the offender's bias against a race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or ethnicity/national origin.
LOL as of now there is no proof this definition holds true in this situation.

The facts are ONE black male struck the victim. Then the others (4 or 5) robbed him. How do you know the victim was white?

This is insane! There is definately a double standard in this country in reguard to racism and hate crimes. It always seems when it's against blacks, it's automatically racially motivated, but when it's agaisnt whites, it's not. In this case we don't know if it was a hate crime or not, could just be a robbery.
There was a case recently down in Florida where a white man was attack and beaten almost to death by a large group (article says about 20) of black teens. The eye witness said after beating the man, the teens said "That's justice for Trayvon". I would think that should be a hate crime, but whomever wrote the article did not mention it.

@Elizabeth I respect and agree with your first statement. The reason it wasnt is because : Hate Crime Def : a criminal offense committed against a person, property or society which is motivated, in whole or in part, by the offender's bias against a race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or ethnicity/national origin.

Brian the point I am trying to make is whenever wgite person is accused of attacking a black person it is immediatly reported as being a possible hate crime. but when it is blacks attacking a white person it is not. I am not saying this case is a hate crime since I don't have all the information.

It is very poor reporting (or intentionally misleading) to not mention pertinent details from the police report. I think patch can do better.
Tim Lemke
9:36 am on Sunday, April 29, 2012
It is the policy of Patch—and nearly all news organizations—to refrain from reporting suspects' race unless there is additional credible information that describes the suspects and would aid the public in identifying them. In this case, there was no other information provided.
