Where are the police? There seems to be a need for more officers on Route 175 and Route 170 with the population of bars in our area. Maybe more visuals would be more of a deterant.

I find it shocking how many trees/light poles and signs have been hit along the roads in Piney Orchard recently. I know the police have been patrolling stop signs on some of the side streets, but I feel like they need to step up the patrols along main roads at night, especially on weekends.

I frequently walk with my young child and even during the day it is amazing and scary how many drivers don't stop for us in crosswalks (especially the roundabout).

What population of bars? There are a couple across from the formica plant, one or two at the Waugh Chapel shopping center and then Jim's Hideaway over by the MARC station. All of those are miles from this intersection.

From the mouth of my babe. My 13 year old daughter has said the traffic circles are costing our town to much money because they are always getting ran into and needing replacing. I thought that was a pretty good observation from a young person.

I'd be curious to know more details about the driver and and the circumstances that led to this accident. Such as who was it? Was anyone hurt? Where had they been drinking?

Robert, I don't think the "who" is anyone's business but the courts. Of course, we're all nosy, but it's just that - nosy. If anyone was hurt, I'm sure they are recovering now. Where were they drinking? Probably at home, or in their car.

The more important and relevant questions should be: How can we prevent this? It seems like there should have been more drunk checkpoints the days after the SuperBowl.
How can we make the traffic circles safer for vehicles and pedestrians - and cyclists? what about a walking bridge? What about adding a manditory traffic circle bit to drivers ed? And a refresher course offered by the police department for those that want it? Heck, that's not that difficult once you have it explained - what about a NEWS VIDEO of HOW TO NAVIGATE A TRAFFIC CIRCLE. make it one of those interactive things. Make it part of your drivers licence renewal. Oh, did you take your 5 minute traffic circle nav class? Step over here...

Sharon, how do you plan to pay for the overtime and extra manpower for the checkpoints? How do you plan to pay for a pedestrian bridge? And we're not a city, so we don't have a police department. What TV channel do you really think will effectively reach the residents (not citizens) of Piney Orchard with a spot on traffic circle navigation? Finally, do you really find it that challenging to navigate a traffic circle? You need to take off your WWJD rubber band and snap yourself in the eye.

The only things I can take from the photos are that we'll probably have to wait on an insurance claim to get the sign repaired and it would have been better if the driver hit the sign in the middle and not the shorter side........ not because justice may have been served right there, that would be awful, but had the car hit the wall and come to a complete stop it would have prevented the risk that an innocent law-abiding driver entering the circle on the other side may have been injured or killed by a drunk driver

I suggest the round about monument be replaced with sparse low cut shrubbery. If anyone hits it again they can run over it with minimum damage to the vehicle and possibly none to the occupant. It's cheaper to replace soil and plants than brick. Also visibility is better.
