Odenton's Christmas Tree Graveyard

Some people wonder where to put their Christmas tree after they are done with it. Having your very own Christmas tree graveyard can be a wonderful benefit.

I am fortunate enough to live in a house that backs up to woods. This means no concerns about privacy, no traffic noise and no accidental sightings of neighbors in their undergarments.

And it also means I have an easy place to dispose of the Christmas tree each year.

Since 2007, I've tossed my old Christmas tree out back, right on top of the previous year's decaying carcass. So now there are five trees there, all in varying states of decomposition.

Call it the Christmas Tree Graveyard.

There's a legend (which I just now invented) that if you stand in the graveyard long enough, the Spirit of Christmas will rise up and grant you extra gifts. Or maybe the Spirit of Christmas is providing extra nourishment for the soil, and we'll see magical things grow there someday.

I do know there is a stream that runs right by the graveyard, so hopefully some Christmas Spirit will flow to your house!

Does anyone else have a Christmas Tree graveyard? If so, how many past Christmases do you have buried back there?

When our girls were younger we would recycle our tree and make a "bird tree"!
We would put the tree out in the middle of the yard and decorate with food for the birds. The girls would string popcorn, make suet balls and hang fruit. The birds would enjoy the tree for a few more weeks. It makes me wonder why we stopped!
