Anne Arundel County police have charged a Baltimore man in connection with an alleged “road rage” stabbing on Maryland Route 3 Monday afternoon.

Police allege that Ross Brandon Sudbrook, 23, stabbed another man after arguing with him on the road.  The vehicle in which Sudbrook was an occupant, a PT Cruiser, and the vehicle in which the stabbing victim was an occupant, a Ford Explorer, were later involved in a collision near the Honda Powersports store in Gambrills.

According to a police press release, officers first responded at about 4 p.m. to the intersection of Route 3 North and Churchview Road. They found a Chrysler PT Cruiser and a Ford Explorer in a drainage ditch near the Honda dealership.

Officers learned there had been a fight between Sudbrook, who was a passenger in the PT Cruiser, and a 44-year-old driver of the Explorer. Witnesses told police that before the car accident, the driver of the Explorer and a passenger exchanged seats. At that time, the driver of the Explorer also exchanged words with Sudbrook.

At the intersection of Route 3 and Riedel Road, the driver of the Explorer got out of the SUV and confronted Sudbrook, who responded by stabbing the man, police said.

The driver of the PT Cruiser, a 22-year-old woman, then fled north on Route 3, but was forced off the road by the Explorer. Sudbrook and the driver of the Explorer then got into a confrontation, with the driver of the Explorer subduing Sudbrook until police arrived.

Both Sudbrook and the driver of the Explorer were sent to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for nonlife-threatening injuries. The driver of the PT Cruiser and two passengers in the Explorer also were hospitalized with minor injuries, police said.

Police said they are continuing to investigate the incident and no one else has been charged. They said it does not appear the parties knew each other prior to Monday’s incident.

Sudbrook has been charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and carrying a dangerous weapon with intent to injure.

According to a search of court records, Sudbrook pleaded guilty in July 2010 to charges of disorderly conduct, and also was fined $90 for a traffic violation in 2009.
