Gas Main Leak Causes Annapolis Road Shutdown

Construction crews struck a line near the Severn Square shopping center, causing the road to be shut down for more than two hours.

Annapolis Road was shut down near Fort Meade on Monday, after a gas main was struck near the Severn Square Shopping Center.

Construction crews are believed to have struck a two- to four-inch gas line at about 11 a.m. Monday, and the road was closed between Reece and Disney Roads, according to Batallion Chief Steve Thompson of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

The road was shut down for about two-and-a-half hours, then later opened with one lane in each direction. The fire department was on the scene for more than three hours, Thompson said.

There were no reports of any injuries or health effects.
