Firefighters Help Pair Stranded on Flooded Patuxent Road

Two people found themselves stuck as water surrounded their car. The road was closed to traffic.

Firefighters from Anne Arundel County assisted two people who found themselves stranded on a flooded stretch of Patuxent Road in Odenton Tuesday night.

Chief Michael Cox of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said firefighters responded at 7:41 p.m. and found two people who were stuck in their car on Patuxent Road near Bragers Road. Cox said the car was stranded in water that rose to more than three feet.

The pair was helped to safety without any injuries, Cox said.

Patuxent Road frequently floods during heavy rains, and was blocked to traffic Tuesday.

Cox said it appeared that the two people had driven around cones and a sign marking the road as closed.

"the two people had driven around cones and a sign marking the road as closed."

What, the signs don't apply to you? "Ah, well, those signs are for other people. WE can proceed."

What is wrong with people. Thank goodness none of the rescuers was hurt.

Only if it's true that they drove around the cones, they should be billed by the county for the cost of the rescue.

I COMPLETELY agree with John. If these people ignored the signs, they absolutely should be charged, not just the cost, but for endangering these rescue workers!

Yes I agree with John and Rebecca we live on Conway and it was crazy the amount of fire engines ambulances and assorted rescue and police vehicles that were sent out for these idiots! Make them pay!

I agree, these idiots should pay for the rescue recovery costs! I must say, this does not surprize me at all, I have never seen so many stupid drivers while living in MD. People in a hurry that don't follow driving laws, signs etc. The recent round-about sign being damaged in this same area it 1 of many examples of idiot drivers in MD!! AA county, make an example of these idiots and make them pay!

Having lived off of this road for over 25 years I have seen so many people do this - even the locals. There are so many people who believe a road closure doesn't apply to them. I agree - they should be billed for county time, but I also believe the husbands/wives/parents/children should get a thank you note from the people who put their loved one in harms way to save a few minutes of travel. Wonder what that note would say....
