Committee to Review Apartment, Retail Projects
The Odenton Town Center Committee will hear details about more than 25,000 square feet of new retail space in the north section of town.
Odenton's development review board will examine two new projects proposed along Annapolis Road, including an apartment project and a complex with nearly 25,000 square feet of retail.
The Odenton Town Center Plan Oversight Committee will meet Tuesday and review Alliance Residential's plan for 212 apartments at Nevada Avenue and Baldwin Road. The committee had previously approved a sketch plan for the project, and will now consider a final plan with modifications.
The committee will also review a new proposal for Garner Center, a retail complex planned for a two-block stretch along Annapolis Road across from Fort Meade. The center, located at 1566 and 1572 Annapolis Road, includes one larger building with space for six retail tenants and two other smaller retail buildings. In all, the project calls for roughly 25,000 square feet of retail.
The committee could vote to recommend approval of both projects. The Anne Arundel County Office of Planning and Zoning has the final say.
The town center committee will also present its annual development report and examine its five-year Master Plan.
Tuesday's meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Western District police station, 8273 Telegraph Rd., Odenton.
A copy of the draft agenda for Tuesday's meeting and the site plan for the Garner Center project is attached.

It'd be super to re-develop the ickyness across the street from Ft Meade, but maybe sometime we can stop mowing down trees to build apartments?

With thousands of people moving into the area, they will need somewhere to live......

How about some of the vacant houses for sale? Odenton needs to be the town of apartments?

I understand that and agree with you, but there are more people moving into the area then some vacant houses can provide.

Exactly. Apartments facilitate transient populations who typically are less community-oriented than homeowners.
And what about road improvements to accommodate the "thousands of people" and their cars? Except for up past Ft Meade where they are widening 175, there are not too many improvements being made to the major roads in the area...

I do agree with you Calique that some major road work needs to be accomplished in certain areas. I am sure it is also a fine line of building housing for transient populations or building neighborhoods of homes for purchase not rent. Either way though, I think we both agree in that section across from the base could definitely use some "beautification processes" though, right?

Yes, Matt... the area across from Ft Meade needs spiffing up! The Royal Farms was a great start... looking forward to further improvements along there!

In other words... step aside and accept that "Welcome" imprint on your forehead. Accept what you are Odenton. You are a doormat.

NIMBYers! Same kind of people that extol the virtues of public transportation unless THEY have to ride it.

They need to sick to the plan, but it will take time. AJ properties is biased. They stand to make money from more housing and less retail.
Odenton has more going for it than the Mall. The Marc station can be the hub for it all if they do it right.
