Bluegrass and Green Awareness

Plenty of music, crafts and eco-awareness served up this weekend

Need some ideas for the weekend? Here's a list of some fun and interesting events in the region.

Annapolis Symphony Orchestra Ball

Where/When: Annapolis Loews Hotel. Saturday, April 16, 6:30 p.m.
Why Go: Want to spend an evening in elegant company, living your princely (or princessly) dreams? Attend the annual ball to benefit Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. This year's theme is April in Paris.
Price: $225/ticket ($125 is tax-deductible)

Night at the Wax Museum
Where/When: Annapolis Children's Theater. Saturday, April 16, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, April 17, 2 p.m.
Why Go: Six unlucky kids have to repeat their history class when school closes for summer. Imagine their surprise when a night at the wax museum turns out to be a rollicking ride through history. If your kid is a history buff, this is the show to go to. If history makes him go meh, nothing better than this show to introduce him to a fun experience.
Price: $15 for adults, $12 for kids 12 and under and seniors 60 and over.

Filmfest DC
Where/When: Various DC theaters. Through Saturday, April 16.
Why Go: On view are quality foreign and American films that speak to you. This year's geographic focus includes Scandinavia and South Korea. Other countries represented include Israel, India and Iran.
Price: $11, some shows free

DC Bluegrass Festival
Where/When: Langley High School, McLean VA. Saturday, April 16, 1 p.m. - 10 p.m.
Why Go: Terrific bands, workshops for amateurs, breakout jam sessions, vendors galore. Plenty of reasons to go if you or someone you know is a bluegrass enthusiast. Also a great way to support local musicians.
Price: $30

Baltimore Green Week
Where/When: Various events around Baltimore on Saturday, April 16 and Sunday, April 17.
Why Go: Saturday brings Spring Flower Show, Sunday is a day for the unplugged. There's a Localize It program on Sunday, where local foods, crafts and artists are showcased. There's a lot you, the green conscious individual, can do.
Price: Varies by event

Note: Check Odenton Patch later this week for a rundown of Easter-related activities, including Palm Sunday church services and Easter Egg hunts for the kids.

Colonial Players' last weekend for "Company", the musical, is this weekend. CP is a non-profit community theater that has been in Annapolis for over 60 years. This is a great show for couples or singles, not for families. I am on the board for CP and if you have any questions about parking, our season, etc, please contact me at rebecca.feibel@thecolonialplayers.org!
