3 Local Schools Get New Principals

Waugh Chapel Elementary, Arundel Middle and Meade High will have new principals for the 2012-2013 school year.

Three local schools are set to get a new principal before the start of the new school year, according to Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS).

  • Waugh Chapel Elementary: Amanda Edmonds, formerly assistant principal at Nantucket Elementary
  • Arundel Middle: Yolanda Leonard-Clark, formerly acting principal at Meade High
  • Meade High: John Yore, formerly a principal in Montgomery County and Delaware and most recently assistant principal at Old Mill Middle School North

Nine of the 17 total schools getting new administrators will have first-time principals when schools open in August. Superintendent Kevin Maxwell transferred six principals to different schools.

“I believe these changes make us better as an overall system as we continue along our journey to greatness,” Maxwell said in a press release. “I am excited about the talented group of new principals who have been promoted and am confident that those principals who are changing locations will be great assets to the new communities which they will now serve.”

Official changes reportedly take effect on June 27. A complete list of promotions and reassignments in area schools can be found in the "For Your Information," section of the school system’s website.
