Arundel Music Students Selected for All-County, All-State Ensembles
The success found by the Arundel High School Marching Band end of the 2012 marching season with the USBands Maryland State Championships for Group III Open has continued for Wildcat musicians as the program enters the holiday season.
Wildcats instrumental and vocal musicians have added to the success of the marching band with selections to the 2012 Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) “All-County” Chorus, the 2012 AACPS “All-County” Orchestra, the 2012-2013 Maryland State High School Mixed Chorus and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) “Side-by-Side” program.
Senior clarinetist Jeremiah Quijote earned selection to the 2012 BSO Side-by-Side program last fall and will perform with the BSO at their annual concert slated for Wednesday, December 6 at 10:30 a.m. at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore. Quijote is a three-time selectee to the AACPS “All-County” concert band and was a member of the 2011-2012 All-County orchestra.
Arundel has placed at least one musician into the BSO program every year since 2005.
Last week, Arundel chorus director Briana Gresko announced that the school added four additional names to its musical honors this year when the Maryland State High School Chorus performs at Morgan State University in Baltimore during the weekend of February 22-24.
Earning slots to the All-State Mixed Ensemble are senior sopranos Emily Schulz and Katie MacLeod, junior soprano Carianne Powers, and junior alto Sarah Sinnott. The musicians are not strangers to all-state selections – the quartet were members of the 2011-2012 All-State women’s chorus.
The selection of all-county musicians continued with the selection of nine musicians to the AACPS All-County orchestra following auditions held at Annapolis High School in mid-October. Earning positions in the orchestra were seniors Janet Herington (cello) and Kathryn Beutler (cello); juniors Kate Slade (violin), and Jennifer Hewitt (violin); sophomore Jessica Yao (violin); and freshmen Emily Beutler (violin), Gil Yoojin (violin), James Snedecor (bass violin) and Madeline Beaudry (trombone).
For Kathryn Beutler, Hewitt and Yao, the selection marks the second time each has earned all-county orchestra honors. All three were selected for the 2011-2012 orchestra. The other Arundel musicians mark their first selection to the group, which will perform on Saturday, December 8 at Annapolis High School; beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door.
Earlier this year, following auditions held October 8, the county selected one Arundel musician – junior bass vocalist John Tevis – for the annual all county concert held November 3 at Chesapeake High School.
